In my own experience and working with people to create healthy change, there is always that one food that you absolutely cannot touch. Common DO NOT TOUCH foods include cheese, chocolate, chips and Nutella.
Instead of trying to reduce or eliminate them, what about upgrading the quality? If your DO NOT TOUCH food is cheese, buy only organic, high quality cheese. If it is chocolate, upgrade to at least 70% dark chocolate. Chips? Look for chips that are baked instead of fried, vegetable chips or chips that fried in a healthier oil and use unrefined salt instead of table salt. Even Nutella has healthier versions that can be found in organic food stores.
When you buy only the best quality of your DO NOT TOUCH food, something wonderful happens: You naturally start eating less of it, and take more time to really savor the taste.
An even better upgrade is to make it yourself. This weekend I made my own DO NOT TOUCH food – chocolate – using cacao butter, raw cacao powder, dates, sea salt and a pinch of lavender (recipe here). It was divine!
About 5 years ago, I was an M&M’s and Maltesers addict. Now my tastebuds have been upgraded to the point where I don’t think I could ever eat them again!
What about you, have you upgraded any of your DO NOT TOUCH foods?

Please find hereafter my amazing bread-recipe. It includes two of my favourite foods ever: dates… And coffee! Amazing! Furthermore I totally recognize myself on the description by the author about her wife! Additipnal home-tipps: I did the spicy gluten&lactose-free version thanks to olive oil instead of butter + rice flour + grated tonka bean. Yummy!

What an awesome idea! Love the concept of upgrading those no touch foods. I think in the past mine were chocolate and cheese as well and I have certainly upgraded them. At the moment bread is probably one of them as well but I like the idea of upgrading to a nice sour dough!
Thanks for your comment, Laura! If you want a great ‘upgraded’ bread recipe, I have been doing this one – it takes 5 minutes to prepare and tastes great: http://mynewroots.org/site/2013/02/the-life-changing-loaf-of-bread/
I just realise now that my comment led to confusion: I meant that now instead of buying chips that are healthy I keep the un-healthy ones and add to the table some carrots and radishes (=healthy snacks)
as the un- healthy ones are the ones people usually go for at first: ) sorry for the confusion!!
My “do not touch” food are the ones exactlt you mention- a few years ago i loved milk chocolate and Then growing up my taste changed and the dark 70% chocolate became my best friend. Nutella chips and cheese remain the ones That i eat every now and then, but not un excess as if i do my stomack Hurt and it is not pleasant! Re the chips i had some healthy ones (carrot, radish) to the “bad” ones
Thank you for your comment, Berenice – those vegetable chips are the ones I was thinking of…
The homemade chocolate looks yummy! Was it good?
It was absolutely delicious! The only problem is that good quality cacao butter is hard to find here, so have to order it online…I’ll make you some when you come over!
